Luncheon Event to Feature Dr. Ruby Payne

On April 22, 2010, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville will hold its spring event, “Bridges Out of Poverty,” at the Doubletree Hotel in Charlottesville.   Ruby Payne, Ph.D., author of A Framework for Understanding Poverty and Bridges out of Poverty, is the keynote speaker for this luncheon event.   Dan Rosensweig, Executive Director of our local affiliate, will also address the participants at the event.

Dr. Payne is the founder of a consulting company,  aha! Process, through which she conducts seminars and training sessions focused on changing the outcomes for individuals living in poverty.  Since the mid-1990s, she has been speaking to audiences around the world about the effects of poverty on students, families, and communities, and the means to increase understanding and support among people from differing economic backgrounds. Read more about Ruby Payne.

Executive Director Dan Rosensweig will speak about Habitat's role in alleviating poverty in our community by addressing the affordable housing crisis.  He will explain how Habitat's planned development in two local trailer parks will significantly increase the stock of affordable housing.

If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Katie Kellett, Development Manager at kkellett@cvillehabitat.org.
